THE STORY BEHIND THE MACHINES
A country shaped by history, where motorcycles from different eras found a place to stay.
From the French colonial period through the American era and the decades that followed, motorcycles arrived in Vietnam through changing communities and circumstances. French and American military personnel, diplomats, foreign residents, Vietnamese owners, and collectors all formed part of this history.
For most motorcycles dating from the 1920s to the 1970s, original period registration papers are no longer available. Decades of war, successive governments, administrative changes, and the passage of time have resulted in the loss of many historical records.
Today, each motorcycle offered by Relic Motorworks is accompanied by current legal documentation issued by the relevant Vietnamese authorities. These documents contain the motorcycle's identifying details and provide the legal basis for export from Vietnam and the destination country's import and registration procedures, subject to its applicable requirements.
DISCOVER WHY VIETNAMOriginal period documents and historical ownership records are generally unavailable for these motorcycles. Current Vietnamese legal documentation establishes their present legal status; it is distinct from historical provenance and does not, by itself, establish an individual motorcycle's complete ownership history.
THE RELIC STANDARD
Every motorcycle has a story beyond its appearance. We present the history, identity, documentation, and mechanical condition of each machine as clearly as the available records and inspection allow.
What is known about the motorcycle's past, its origins, and its ownership history. Historical records and supporting evidence are presented where available, with gaps clearly acknowledged.
A clear account of the motorcycle's identity and specification, including original, restored, replaced, modified, or reproduction components where these can be established.
The current legal documents accompanying the motorcycle, issued by the relevant Vietnamese authorities, are distinguished from original period papers and historical ownership records.
An honest description of the motorcycle's mechanical state, including its running condition, known issues, restoration work, and relevant components or systems inspected.
No two motorcycles share the same history or condition. Each deserves its own account.
